Review #163: The Doctor Who Made Her Love Again by Susan Carlisle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Unless it is mad, passionate, extraordinary love, it's a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life- love should not be one of them"

Susan Carlisle, an American author, who is a medical romance writer, have spun yet another passionate series, Heart of Mississippi. The Doctor Who Made Her Love Again is the first book in this series, that revolves around an up-tight nurse and a dashing doctor.

Synopsis:

China Davis is happy. She is. So what if her family is a mess? She has careful control over her own life! Yet when new hotshot doc Payton Jenkins arrives, that control is suddenly put to the test….

Payton left a successful Chicago practice the moment he recovered from cancer, desperate to live a full life. But it's soon clear that beautiful Golden Shores nurse China is hiding from even the simplest of pleasures….

Can Payton show China that there's more to life…?

China Davis is the up-tight nurse, who still lives with her clingy and strict parents. China Davis is so up-tight that she doesn't do anything for fun! Enters, Payton Jenkins, a new doctor in China's small town. Payton instantly makes an impression on China's mind with his kindheartedness and charm. Soon their inevitable attraction leads China to a life full of fun and frolic. But her past is clawing down upon her and is stopping her from having any fun. It's easy to fall for the dashing doctor, but it's equally hard for to turn a blind eye to her critical family situation.

Susan Carlisle spins the story so smoothly, flawlessly and effortlessly. With the easy flow of narration ,it makes it easy for us to get a grip on this story. The prose is nice and the author have layered each and every scene with emotions, thus making it a complete roller-coaster ride of emotions which runs deep and intense. The chemistry is not too lusty yet not too pure- I call it, balanced.

The characters are undoubtedly very surreal, but their flaws are very real. Payton is a doctor who has fought hard with cancer and have won the battle successfully, whereas China is scared to take chances because of her family. China is an ideal daughter, and in the process of being an ideal daughter, she forgot how to live a little and Payton made sure, china learns how it feels when you loosen up a bit.

Verdict: The book is compelling enough to sway you in it's emotional rhythm.
